My name is Alix and I have worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the DC Metro area for over twenty years. I have a master's degree in social work from Boston University and an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan. Helping people find their joy and overcome obstacles has always been my passion. I have worked in child welfare, schools, adult day programs, and skilled nursing facilities helping people ranging in age from 6-86. I like to infuse my upbeat, positive, energetic personality into my work with all of my clients.
I worked with a teenage girl who didn't want to go to school because she was worried about poor academic performance. I helped her see that her self-worth was not connected to the grade on the paper, to find ways to complete assignments without anxiety and to enjoy learning again.
I will meet you where you are and that might include talking about how you are feeling at that exact moment, reminiscing on something that happened a long time ago, or planning something you want to achieve in the future. The counseling sessions are your time and I am here to listen and guide you to find your strengths and meet your goals.
A typical first session looks like us getting to know each other and making sure that we are a good fit. I will ask you about what led you to seek out therapy and about the long-term and short-term goals that you have for yourself in therapy and your daily life. I want you to feel comfortable and to look forward to future sessions working together.
I love to see positive outcomes, but I consider the journey just as important as the destination. Seeing clients meet their goals is wonderful, but it is equally exciting to see them making incremental steps or as I like to say, "Checking things off their list." As an occupation I love that every day is different, anything can happen and I'm just as likely to learn something new as my clients.
