I had a client that had severe OCD and he was transferred to me from anotherclinician in the practice. After working with him for a few months he wasdischarged. He started having to do and count everything 6 times and when wewere done working together he was doing things once and would not have to goback and check anything.
I like my clients to feel completely comfortable with me. My process is verylight hearted and a combination of learning about each other and having funand learning at the same time. I feel that people need to be able to laugh andbe comfortable to take in what they need to learn.
My first session is all about them. It is all about learning about them andletting them talk as much as they like and ask any questions they would liketo know about me. The first thing that I tell people is this is me all thetime and I am down to Earth and flexible and they have no reason to be anxiousor nervous with me because I am judge free. I also let them know that I donot say I totally understand unless I mean it and if I do not understand Iwill ask questions to learn as much as I need to know.
Everything motivates me to be a therapist. I become close with my clients tobe able to help them and let them know I am here when they know me and notjust during a one hour session once a week. I want them to know I can becounted on and that means a lot to me to build that rapport to the point ofthem knowing I mean what I say. I want to be able to help people and get tothe point I am at after struggling and dealing with many of the same thingsthey have and are dealing with right now.
