Charmayne Powell
Charmayne began her journey in the field of social services influenced by her parents, who served as foster care providers for much of her life. Witnessing the positive impact of wraparound services—especially clinical counseling—firsthand inspired her to pursue a career in counseling psychology after high school. She finds the work both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Currently, Charmayne is in the process of finalizing her paperwork for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). It has been a meaningful and transformative journey. Her future goals include potentially earning a master’s degree in divinity or a PsyD, and she also hopes to publish some of her completed creative writing projects. In her free time, Charmayne enjoys traveling, cooking diverse foods, and participating in activities that celebrate her Christian faith.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with several resistant or mandated clients who initially struggled with engaging in treatment. However, many of them eventually chose to educate themselves and actively participate in the process. As a result, I observed meaningful changes—reduced symptoms, improved behaviors, and increased motivation. Many went on to report positive life changes, including gaining employment, securing stable housing, and experiencing healthier relationships.
In a word: collaborative. I believe each client is the expert of their own story and experiences. My role is to meet them where they are and work alongside them to navigate the path toward where they want to be. Through personalized treatment planning that aligns with their individual goals, I strive to support and empower them every step of the way.
The first session with me is all about rapport building and possible information gathering. As previously mentioned, consumers are the experts of their stories. Therefore, I want to help them comfortably unpack it to identify the root cause of poor mental, emotional, and behavioral health.
What motivates me as a therapist is the knowledge that the support I provide can make a meaningful difference in someone's overall quality of life. Whether it's helping someone find hope during a difficult time or guiding them toward healthier choices, the opportunity to share my knowledge, offer resources, and walk alongside clients in their journey is incredibly rewarding.
