My name is Chenelle Williams, LPC, LCADC, CCS. I am licensed in New Jersey with 8 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, relationship issues, motivation, self esteem, and confidence. Clients should feel at ease, despite what may be occurring in their lives, when going into therapy. My goal is to provide that to all that I have the pleasure of working with. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
I worked with a client with significant substance use issues since he was a teenager who’d run out of hope for abstinence and a sober lifestyle. Through our work together, referrals to other services, utilization of reality therapy and solution-focused support, this client is currently abstinent for more than 90 days. He has held a job for this entire time, his relationship has improved and he is saving for an engagement ring. He has also stopped selling drugs, has made amends with his family and is working to move out on his own with his girlfriend.
The counseling process with me will begin with a focus on some information about the past and “how we got here.” However, as a solution-focused clinician, focus on goals for the future will be the primary theme of the process. I use a more laid-back approach to counseling to create an open space that does not feel like treatment, but a conversation between peers working to solve a problem together.
My first session isn’t just a time for demographic gathering and explaining confidentiality laws. It’s important that my clients understand that counseling is a process that can work for them, so we’ll spend time looking at the specific issue they are seeking help with and begin exploring goals and expectations for treatment.
Studying the mind and how people explore the world around them has always been interesting to me. Also, I was always the one that family friends came to to talk to because I enjoy listening to others and helping them to solve a problem. Now, after many years, I realized the impact therapy can have on someone and I am joyous knowing that I can be a part of that number.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
My counseling style is authentic, integrative, holistic, supportive, genuine, perceptive, and curious. My approach combines humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral counseling. My approach to therapy is solution focused and client centered with a bit of fun and humor. I believe that a simple and casual approach makes therapy more palatable, allowing for openness and individualism. I work with my clients to find the ways that work for them to reach the goals that they would like to reach. I follow your lead towards achieving your goals. I hope to be able to create a space of openness, connection and focus.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I have worked with adolescents and adults; domestic violence survivors, military, and geriatric populations in individual therapy, group therapy and neurological testing. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use, addiction, trauma, eating disorders, social anxiety, mood disorders, and just the stress that life can sometimes bring. While I do work in a general way with all ages and a variety of groups, my focus population is on adults in mid-life, ages 30-60.
