About Me

I have provided individual, group, and family therapist since 2011. I earned my license as a Clinical Social Worker in Virginia in 2014. I started out studying Spanish and Latin American Studies at Georgetown University and am fluent in Spanish. After a few years working a desk job, I received a Master’s of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. In that time, I worked in intensive in-home therapy and residential treatment for children and adolescents, in community mental health, private practice, and a hospital setting. I have significant experience working with anxiety and depression, trauma, life stage changes and adjustment, coping with chronic and terminal illness, and grief and loss. I continuously build my therapist skills through education and study, searching for updated interventions and ideas from many different theoretical approaches. Mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy is proven effective for all of the life struggles listed above and is can be combined with many other interventions to reduce stress and improve overall functioning. I also love to incorporate experiential interventions from art, music, and movement therapies when appropriate to tap into creative solutions for common life struggles. Lastly, I often use humor to lighten the weight of the work my clients and I do together. I live in Northern Virginia with my family, dogs, and rabbits. I love being outdoors and meeting new people and animals.

FAQs

In many years of work with trauma survivors, the biggest breakthrough is always when clients can finally say, without any hesitation, “This was not my fault.” Once their challenging unhelpful self-talk is finally vanquished, clients are able to move forward into building additional skills and self-compassion.

Receiving therapy should never be an additional stressor in your life. Our sessions will be lightly structured to discuss the goals you want to achieve. I always seek to end on a positive note, recognizing your strengths and generally adding some humor. Our therapeutic space is confidential, non-judgmental, and safe for you to be able to receive the support and growth that you seek.

Our first session will always be an open conversation between two people getting to know each other. The main goal is to discuss the concerns that you, the client, want to work on through our sessions. We identify goals that we can achieve together and specific steps that we need to take in order to do so.

I truly believe that I gain as much from my clients as they do from our work together. I am always inspired by human resilience, love, humor, creativity and faith. It proves every day that we are capable of continuous mental, emotional, and spiritual growth throughout our lives.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

To start, my ultimate goal is to get clients to a place where they no longer “need” therapy. Our work together is always to identify coping strategies, build self-compassion, and create a supportive structure so that the client is able to continue through life’s challenges and successfully come out the other side. That being said, I work collaboratively with clients to create a strong therapeutic relationship that allows for open conversations and ongoing support even after they have achieved those goals. We want to overcome how clients may be “stuck” and through safe, compassionate, and judgment-free work to grow and flourish.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies and blend multiple modalities to best fit client needs, including Psychotherapy,  Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy & Trauma-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over the years of working as a therapist, my ability to be open and empathetic creates a comfortable atmosphere where clients can find the space to work through some of life’s most difficult challenges. I have worked with many clients from different backgrounds and cultures, encouraging them to use their individual beliefs, values, and experiences to shape their goals for therapy. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for all clients to find what matters most to them. I often use gratitude and humor to add focus to life’s positive aspects while coping with extremely difficult experiences and complex feelings. I also adapt my therapeutic approach to pull from multiple theories to identify the best evidence-based interventions and support for each individual client.
