I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and have been practicing since 2008. I believe it is important to be person centered and meet people where they are in order to best support their goals. Creating a safe environment for people to feel comfortable practicing vulnerability is a top priority in my work. In my free time, I enjoy planning day trips and activities with my family and going out to dinner with friends. I love baking and trying new recipes to share with others.
I worked with a mother of four who was struggling with substance use and in an unhealthy relationship work her way from a family shelter to permanent housing and completed outpatient therapy. She now has eleven years of sobriety, has a job she enjoys, is active in her church, and she and her children are happy.
I open each session with a check in from the last time we met, we will talk about any current stressors and check in on treatment plan goals and objectives. We will likely cover skills that have been applied and learns new ones try in the coming week.
The first session is generally intake and involves a lot of questions. I respect that some of the questions can feel very personal and I give support to only answer within the boundaries that feel comfortable for the individual. If we have time left, we will complete the individualized treatment plan.
I absolutely believe that people can and do recover from symptoms and life experiences. I love that my job affords me the opportunity to meet so many different people which helps me to never stop learning.
