Brandyce received her BS in Behavioral Science at York College of Pennsylvania in 2004 where she received departmental honors for her major. She went on to receive her Master's Degree in Social work from Rutgers School of Social Work in 2006 and graduated cum laude. She has over 15 years of clinical experience with individuals, couples, and groups. She received her clinical hours while working with a diverse population of individuals in need of both outpatient and intensive outpatient therapy. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her sessions, where the focus is on thoughts. Thoughts affect feelings which then affect behaviors, so if you want to feel and act differently, you need to first think differently. She has experience with all age groups, but works primarily with adults. Brandyce loves to exercise in her spare time and is an avid runner. She loves spending time outdoors with her husband and 2 daughters. She also loves animals and has a Bernedoodle named Cameron.
I was seeing a client who had lost her husband unexpectedly due to Covid. She was very depressed and didn't really know how to move forward on her own. This also brought on feelings of guilt and anxiety. Utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques helped her to change her irrational thoughts to something more positive and realistic. As she started to feel better, she soon recognized that she was not defined by her depression, guilt, or anxiety. She was able to find the confidence to do things on her own, make her own decisions, and successfully advocate for herself.
The two things I like to focus on in order to help clients achieve their goals are perception and self care. How clients think severely impacts how they feel and how they act. We will work on how to effectively change their thoughts in order to feel better and act more positively. Each session will not only be based on their long term goal, but on the challenges they may have experienced the previous week. We will discuss self care techniques and the importance of utilizing them daily. Making themselves a priority in their lives is the first step to improved thinking and better self care.
The first session is an opportunity for me to understand the reason the client is attending therapy. We will briefly discuss things like family history and medical history, but only what they are comfortable sharing. I realize that the first session can be anxiety provoking, however, I will meet my clients where they are at and will go at their pace. The first session is also a chance for the client to ask any questions and get to know a little bit about me.
When thinking about the career path I wanted to take, all I knew was I wanted to help people with their problems. Being able to help guide and support people going through difficult times is something I am grateful for everyday. Watching people not only work on their goals, but achieve them is truly a gift that encourages me to always keep going and never give up.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients will always be provided with a safe and judgment free environment without feeling forced to share their whole life story in one session. They will be supported and their feelings will be validated throughout each session. Together, we will create achievable goals to work towards, at the pace they set. They will be challenged to be the best version of themselves in order to help them learn to love themselves for who they are, gain confidence in themselves, and feel better prepared for life's challenges.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Empty-Chair Technique.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I believe that my empathy for others and the understanding of their differences helps me to see each person as an individual. Therapy is not one size fits all because no two individuals are the same. I will see you for who you are and meet you where you are at with patience, kindness and respect. Therapy isn't only about the destination; how you get there is what counts.
