I earned my MSW from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and most recently have worked at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Cooper University Hospital, Jefferson Cherry Hill and Samaritan Health and Hospice. Prior to taking a break from my career in 2005 to raise my family, I worked at Charter Fairmount Behavioral Health, Bancroft Neurohealth and The Therapeutic Center at Fox Chase. My clinical experiences have given me many years of experience providing behavioral health services to teens, young adults, adults and older adults living with chronic medical conditions, mental health issues and adjustment to life transitions. I also have experience working with individuals facing the challenges faced of care giver issues around aging parents and adult children.
I once worked with a young client and his family who were struggling with the management of a new health diagnosis as well as other mental health issues. Through working on normalizing life as much as possible and identifying and practicing coping skills, the client and family were able to implement healthy coping skills and reduce the symptoms if the pre-existing mental health struggles.
Our first session will likely be spent with answering a lot of questions so I can get to know you and your background a bit better. We will also identify the goals you have for therapy and then spend time exploring the issues that led you to reach out for support.
I tend to use a lot of psychoeducation to insure that people are well education around their mental health issues. I like to use cognitive behavioral therapy, some dialectic behavioral therapy and attachment theory. Since I also have some training in structural and strategic family therapy, I will also often discuss boundaries. I like to provide people with concrete cognitive coping skills to use outside of sessions so they have something to use to improve responses to everyday life stressors and interpersonal relationships.
My own professional experiences with witnessing the disconnect between the mind-body connection and the barriers to wellness this can create.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
My hope is to create a place that allows clients the freedom to express their feelings and struggles in a safe place without feeling a fear of judgement. From this, I aim to have clients stake with them some action steps they can use to begin to improve how they feel and function in daily life.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Attachment-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Establishing a safe place to explore our struggles with the issues that led people to seek support at different times in their lives. Working together to formulate solutions, implement them as well as develop a better understanding of our strengths and areas for growth.
