I am a double board certified Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I completed medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine and my Adult Psychiatry as well as my Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training at University of Maryland Medical Center/ Sheppard Pratt. While there, I also had the privilege of being Chief Fellow. I have developed a passion for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, in particular early childhood trauma, and Women's Mental Health. I have experience in working in a variety of settings including the outpatient setting, inpatient psychiatry, and in the Emergency Room as well as with varied populations. I am well-versed in psychopharmacology but believe in a whole person approach. It is my goal to focus on not only medication but also on the other aspects of healthy living and relationships that can allow mental health to flourish. I believe in a collaborative approach and involve parents, if the patient is a child, therapists, and other professional team members in the treatment process to ensure we are working to have positive growth and change from each avenue possible. I aim to create an inclusive and welcoming space to explore and understand any concerns with mental health and work as a team to make changes based on each individual's specific needs.
The psychiatry process includes an intake evaluation where patients will review their current symptoms as well as a comprehensive review of their history including medical, psychiatric, and social history. This is also a time for the psychiatrist to get to know the patient better including what the patient is hoping to get out of seeing a psychiatrist and goal setting. At the end of the visit, there will be discussion of plans for next steps. This could include further exploration of symptoms, screening tools to complete between visits, or starting medication for the current concerns. For patients under 18, parent and child both need to be present.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Each patient can rest assured that visits with me will include an individualized approach to psychiatry, be that medication management, therapy, or a combination of both. I believe psychiatric care is best done as a team and working towards a shared goal. Patients should expect that they will have time and space to explore treatment options, have time for questions to be thoroughly explained, and feel supported in whatever decisions and goals are made.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychiatric Medication Management, Integrative Medicine, Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy and Trauma-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My biggest strengths include connection, flexibility and building relationships. Joining with a Psychiatrist can seem like a daunting task and starting medications or therapy for some can feel overwhelming. It is my goal to build trust and understanding with each patient to help the process feel more comfortable and to allow easier flow of communication if there are concerns or spaces we need to adjust or do something different.
