I'm not the professional in the room. You are. You've lived your life. You know what's worked, and what hasn't. Life is not only challenging, but complex and one approach does not suit everyone. The relationship between you and your therapist is essential for the best possible outcome in therapy. I take a Rogerian Client-Centered Approach in my therapy, where I will provide a non-judgmental, safe, warm, and accepting environment. By learning about the struggles you've faced and what they meant to you, together, we can develop the skills you need to reach your goals.
I had a client who was mandated to therapy years ago and saw no value in speaking with me. By reframing the goals to match what he wanted which involved him not having legal involvement and being mandated to programs he didn’t want to spend time in, he opened up and saw value in working with me toward a shared goal. He was able to manage his anger and continues working on his mental health to this day.
While everyone’s experience is unique and individualized, I like to learn what is most important to my clients and what is getting in the way of their goals and figure out how to best honor their values and become the best version of themselves in the process.
Our first session is for me to clearly understand what are the most important goals you want to achieve and then get a general background so we can get an idea on what strengths we can rely on moving forward and what challenges we could benefit on improving.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed helping others. I grew up with family and friends who struggled and continue to struggle with addictions and mental health issues. My passion lies in doing the best I can to be there for my clients and contribute to the field to create a more accepting, mentally healthier world.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I believe strongly in a collaborative environment, and I want my clients to take an active role in the therapeutic process as I value the insights and perspectives clients bring to the table from their own life experience. If potential clients want a safe, positive, judgment free environment where we will focus on building the strengths they already have while also learning new skills to achieve the goals they truly want.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical-behavioral therapy. I use a Client-Centered Therapy approach to use your insights and individualized your treatment plan goals to suit your needs and desires. I also employ mindfulness therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations in individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. I have worked with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use, addiction, trauma, social anxiety, mood disorders, attention-deficit disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger management, and grief/loss. While I have worked with clients of all ages, my focus is on adult clients 18 and up.
