Hi, my name is Jarmila Gupta. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor who has experience working both inpatient as well as outpatient in different types of settings over the past four years. I've worked with a variety of individuals and couples of different ages on concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar, medical issues, school stress, communication difficulties, and relationship concerns. Some fun, interesting facts about me are that I come from a multicultural family, which has given me the opportunity to travel and visit multiple countries - both for fun and to see family. I also love to read or write and play table-top games or video games.
One significant breakthrough I experienced was relatively recent with a client who had been working on trauma. In the process of resolving the symptoms of PTSD, we discovered some underlying concerns that had been affecting their mental and physical well-being for years without their knowledge. It was a breakthrough that meant a lot as my client had put in a great deal of work and was able to get that clarity and insight into their life. It was incredible to see them have that realization and then for them to continue to implement all the tools they had learned thus far while they continued to learn more about themselves and their relationships.
My primary objective is to work with you on your priorities and help you achieve your goals. I may point out areas of interest that would be good to further explore but I am here in the process with you and will go where you are ready to explore. Sometimes this might mean uncomfortable topics are discussed but my primary objective is to make sure that you are able to navigate that safely and when you are ready.
A first session with me generally involves a lot of questions! Both for you and me, so that you can get a feel for me and my style. I tend to explain what therapy looks like - such as the process, confidentiality, and also address any questions that you may have. My goal is to demystify the process as much as possible and make it a comfortable space for you to be able to open up and share what you need. I also utilize the first session to get a holistic overview of what is affecting you and what you would like to work on in the counseling process.
I love seeing people grow and learn and become more confident in themselves. I love supporting and nurturing every individual's capacity for growth and change and encouraging that capacity in individuals who may no longer believe they have it. It's incredibly rewarding to see individuals grow and change and become more confident in themselves and build stronger, healthier relationships with themselves and the people around them.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Every individual is different and every session will be different. My ultimate goal is to walk alongside you to help you with what you are seeking help for. We go through so much in life and sometimes we experience things that we have no idea how to share with others or even to process on our own. I see you as the "expert" in your life, as you're the one living it! My role is to utilize evidence-based treatments to help give an outside perspective, encouragement, a safe space to process, or assist you in discovering options that you didn't realize existed. It can be difficult; it can be easy; it can be painful. My ultimate goal is to be someone to help you navigate those difficult emotions and thoughts so you aren't alone with it and to also help find those resources and connections elsewhere so you can continue to flourish and grow independently.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy & Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
One of my biggest strengths is providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment for my clients. While we may talk about things that are difficult and sometimes even scary, I strive to make sure you feel safe and supported and that no topic is too big to explore. This space is for you to utilize and to be able to share things that may be considered unacceptable elsewhere. I pull from a variety of different evidence-based techniques and am flexible in working with my clients as one size doesn't fit everyone! So I work on making it work for my clients - for you - so that you can succeed in meeting your goals and implementing positive change. I also love learning new things and reading, so another strength is continuing to get more information and knowledge so that I can continue to best help my clients.
