About Me

Hi there. I am so glad you are here. My name is Julia Ahumada and I am a Supervisee in Social Work and a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Virginia. My passion is helping people overcome challenges and empower them to lead the live they want to lead! The foundation of my therapeutic practice is to operate from a strengths-based and collaborative approach. One of the first things I do is create a strong therapeutic alliance with all of my clients. Through providing the client unconditional positive regard and a non-judgmental space the client feels safe to begin a journey of self-discovery by exploring their strengths, challenges and areas for growth. My therapeutic approach is eclectic. I incorporate various evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), client-centered therapy, strength-based therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy and mindfulness into each session, I tailor my sessions to meet the unique needs of each client. My hope is that each client gains insight, builds resilience and has in increased sense of well-being in our time together. I am looking forward to beginning this journey with you. A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step - Rumi

FAQs

One of my clients was experiencing severe anxiety which led to school refusal. By challenging the client's irrational thoughts, the client was able to realize how his thoughts were affecting his emotions and behavior. This was an eye-opening experience for the client. Ultimately, the client was able to move forward and manage his anxiety. The client now attends school on a regular basis.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic. I do not believe in one size fits all therapy. I meet the client where they are. Each session will be tailored to the client goals. Our sessions will be relaxing and insightful. I also like to incorporate mindfulness into sessions.

In our first session, you will be welcomed warmly, treated respectfully and provided with a safe space to be. This session will be all about building rapport and hearing about what brought you to therapy. In addition, it is a time for gathering information, answering questions and outlining the therapeutic process to you.

My passion is helping others navigate challenges, find meaning from their past experiences, and grow to be the best version of themselves. I find joy in seeing others thrive!
