About Me

Hi there, I’m Kevin Murphy. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with significant experience providing psychotherapy in a variety of mental health settings. My experience ranges from running adolescent intensive outpatient groups (IOP) to working with older adults in long-term care facilities that struggle with severe physical and cognitive challenges. I believe that we all go through difficult periods in our lives and, at times, may benefit from some professional support and guidance. Together, we will strategize and develop a treatment plan that is based on your own personal strengths, goals, and challenges. No matter what you are currently dealing with, I am here to provide a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I will meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so that you can overcome any obstacles standing in your way. Let’s work together!


I once worked with a teen client who struggled with crippling anxiety and self-esteem issues. Through our work together in both group and individual sessions, the client was able to recognize his unique strengths, develop more effective coping strategies, and improve his personal relationships.

Clients can expect to be treated with respect and dignity during all our sessions together. Clients are the experts of their own lives; therefore, utilizing a variety of approaches in therapy is most appropriate and effective. I tend to often utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivation interviewing, as it is important to meet each individual where they present while also identifying alternate ways of thinking.

My first session is about getting to know the client as an individual, identifying specific issues to explore further, and begin to build trusting therapeutic relationship to best assist in meeting the client’s personal goals.

I have always been interested in the inner workings of our minds and the role it plays on our overall health and happiness. I am the type of person that enjoys analyzing problems and issues to find the best path toward positive change and growth. I believe that when life gets overwhelming, we often fall into negative patterns that only stand in the way of growth and inner acceptance. My greatest joy is seeing clients find new ways of thinking, not only surrounding their current circumstances but also with how they view themselves.


    What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

    My counseling style is authentic, integrative, holistic, supportive, genuine, kind, compassionate, perceptive, and curious. My approach combines humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral counseling. I am focused on the here and now and I want to know what is important to you and how we can move you towards your mental wellness goals.     What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

    I utilize evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectal behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I am an expert in psychotherapy, you are an expert in yourself, and I believe you already have many of the answers inside of you. Your treatment plan will be individualized and tailored to fit your specific needs. These are some of treatment methods and tools I utilize throughout my sessions; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Existential Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy.

    Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

    I have worked with numerous age group populations, ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. In addition to providing individual therapy, I have conducted numerous support groups and cognitive assessments in a variety of settings. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, including; depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance use, trauma, and mood disorders. I am also skilled in working with families and interested in providing therapeutic support for couples and marital relationships.
