About Me

Hi! I’m Lyndsie Johnson, a Licensed Professional Counselor with 10 years of experience working with clients in various levels of care from an outpatient setting to Partial Hospitalization Programs. Using a Cognitive Behavioral approach we’ll work together to explore your relationship with your emotions, take an objective look at the thinking patterns that influence decision making and how your body may be holding stress. We will also include mindfulness and soothing techniques to help you establish a deeper mind-body connection. Whether symptoms of anxiety and depression are obstacles in your everyday functioning or you’re struggling with adjusting to major life changes, I want to give you an empathetic ear and a safe space to be yourself and realize what you value as an individual. Developing new habits and making changes can be difficult but I believe through our work together you can overcome the barriers that hold you back from living the life you imagine.

FAQs

I once worked with a client that struggled with obsessions and compulsive behaviors that made it extremely difficult to complete daily tasks that ultimately impacted school attendance and relationships with family and friends. Through our work together, they were able to overcome their challenges, improve school attendance and relationships; ultimately attending college.

My general counseling approach is from a Cognitive Behavioral framework. Through this approach I am able to assist you in understanding how your thinking patterns influence emotions and actions. We will also be able to understand the motives for behaviors and challenge any negative thoughts that present as obstacles in your life as well as foster healthy behaviors to help you live the life you want. It is important to remember that every person’s therapeutic journey is unique and we will collaborate to tailor your treatment plan to your specific goals.

Our first session will include more than just collecting your background information. I want to hear about what brings you to counseling, your goals for our time together and discuss how we can make counseling an effective tool for you.

Since I was young, I have been interested in why we do what we do and how the mind works. Over the years I have been amazed with the impact that emotional support plays in resilience during difficult times. It motivates me to see others have their “lightbulb moments” and tap into their capabilities to make the changes they have desired to achieve the goals they envision.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My passion is helping you to find healing and acceptance within by challenging negative beliefs of yourself, others and the world so that you may become open to making positive and helpful decisions to reach balance and see yourself as complete and whole, no matter what life throws your way. I also often include humor when appropriate as laughter is often some of the best medicine.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I understand that counseling is not one size fits all practice so I have training in multiple evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Grief Recovery Method (GRM) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I also utilize techniques from Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. We will collaborate to create a treatment plan that reflects your goals using the tools that work best for you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Throughout my career I have worked with toddlers, children, adolescents, young adults through older adult populations. I have worked with clients in multiple levels of care and practice settings with varying concerns including anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, social anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, poor stress management, poor anger management and difficulty adjusting to life changes. While I have worked in a general way with a variety of ages and populations, my focus is adults in their mid-twenties and older.
