Welcome! My name is Ashley Astorini and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rider University in 2020. I have several years of experience in a variety of settings ranging from partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and private practice. I believe that everyone deserves to get proper care and to have a space in their lives where they feel safe and heard in order to begin the healing process. Whether you are navigating life after trauma, dealing with loss, struggling with relationship or self-esteem issues, or dealing with cycles of anxiety or depression, I am here to help. Together we can work to process the past, develop tools to enhance your quality of life, and create overall positive change.
The most rewarding part of the job has been witnessing a long-term client with PTSD begin to change their beliefs and recognize that they were not personally responsible for their own trauma. This was a pivotal moment that helped this client believe that they were deserving and worthy of healing and creating change in their lives. Believing in your own inherent worth is often the biggest barrier in creating change and it was incredibly meaningful supporting this client to get there.
Clients can expect me to be warm and inviting while also being direct and challenging some of your actions and patterns that get in your way. Once we are more comfortable with each other, I tend to use humor to point out some of the patterns that I am noticing. Clients can expect to leave sessions feeling valued and unburdened by their thoughts and feelings. Many of my clients report feeling that I am easy to talk to. My goal is to make counseling feel like a rewarding experience. While not every session will feel light and fluffy, you can expect to leave feeling seen.
Our first session is both the getting to know you and information gathering stage. We'll chat to make sure that we are a good fit for each other, talk about your history, where you are in terms of your healing, and will work together to create meaningful goals.
As a result of my own lived experience, I knew I wanted to be there to support others who are struggling. Often life gets overwhelming, and people just need a little support and redirection which I feel that I am able to play a role in as a therapist. Being able to witness those little lightbulb moments where it all clicks for a client is truly rewarding.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
As your therapist, my approach is relational, empathetic, and deeply rooted in understanding the unique experiences that shape your life. No two clients are the same so I hope that my clients will leave feeling seen and feel comfortable enough to call me out if I miss the mark. My approach is collaborative and, so, together we will create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns without judgment. In our sessions, you can expect to gain deeper self awareness, work on improving your relationships, and develop practical tools to manage your symptoms.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Trauma-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My biggest strengths are that I am warm, personable, and human. The most important tool I can bring to the therapy room is our relationship so I take my time building trust and rapport with my clients. I have my own lived experience that I use to inform my counseling approach and make clients feel less alone in their struggles. I am highly focused on building a safe, supportive, and nurturing atmosphere as these are the building blocks to successful treatment.
