About Me

Hi there! My name is MacKenzie Dressing. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), but you can just refer to me as MacKenzie, Kenzie, or as my family likes to call me, Mac. I have been in the mental health field for over 5 years and have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with symptoms related to anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, communication difficulties, and relationship difficulties. I like to spend my free time outside practicing archery with my husband and our Black Lab/German Shepard mix, Remington. We love to go camping and explore new places. I love just about any food that is unhealthy for you and enjoy watching crime shows/movies on the weekends. Fun Fact: During my free time you can catch me out country line dancing!

FAQs

I recently experienced a significant breakthrough with one of my clients, which was incredibly rewarding. This particular client had been struggling with communication issues and unresolved conflicts within their family. Over several sessions, we worked on building trust and creating a safe space for open dialogue and the client finally felt comfortable enough to express a deep-seated fear that had been influencing their behavior and interactions with family members.

My goal in therapy is to help provide encouragement, compassion, empathy, and utilize advanced counseling tools and strategies to help you create the life and relationships that you want. It would be a privilege to help you harness your strengths as you find solutions to your relationships, struggles, and enhance your overall well-being by building an authentic and honest relationship and creating a space that offers honesty, humor, and genuineness.

A first therapy session with me is designed to be a welcoming and comfortable experience. My primary goal is to establish a safe and supportive environment where clients feel at ease to share their thoughts and feelings. We usually begin with introductions and a brief discussion about the purpose of therapy. I take time to explain the therapy process, confidentiality, and answer any questions clients might have. This helps set clear expectations and ensures clients feel informed and involved from the start.

One of my primary motivations is the opportunity to provide a safe and supportive space for people to explore their thoughts and feelings. Witnessing clients gain insights into their behaviors, develop healthier coping strategies, and achieve their personal and relational goals is incredibly fulfilling. I am also driven by a strong belief in the resilience and potential for growth in every individual. Seeing clients overcome obstacles, heal from past traumas, and build stronger connections with their loved ones reaffirms my commitment to this work.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Have any of these thoughts or statements been floating around in your head for months and it feels like nothing can shake it? “Why do I keep feeling like this? Why does this keep happening? What’s wrong with me?” We can be surrounded by people, but still feel alone, unheard, disconnected, and misunderstood. This is where I come in, to help provide a place where you can navigate those thoughts, emotions, and feelings. I am here to let you know that you’re not alone! I know life gets tough sometimes. There are many different moving parts in our daily lives, and we have many expectations placed on us. I am a firm believer that therapy is an essential and inherent part of being human and I know how difficult it can be to talk about one’s challenges and traumas. However, I know and respect that each individual is different and unique, so I approach therapy in a “new school fashion” where I recognize and appreciate that you are the expert of your life and I am here to help guide you on that journey.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy & EMDR.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my biggest strengths as a marriage and family therapist is my ability to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients. I prioritize building strong, trusting relationships, which is essential for effective therapy. My empathetic and non-judgmental approach helps clients feel heard and understood, encouraging them to open up and share their true feelings and experiences. I am also skilled in employing a variety of therapeutic techniques and interventions. Whether it's cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, or emotion-focused therapy, I can adapt my methods to best support my clients' goals and facilitate positive change. Furthermore, I am committed to continuous learning and professional development. Staying updated with the latest research and best practices in the field ensures that I provide the most effective and evidence-based treatment to my clients.
