Hello! I’m Shaquivia Johnson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field working with adults in various healthcare and community-based settings. I have experience working with adults of various ages but especially enjoy working with older adults. No matter the age of the adult, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space for growth and healing. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking/baking, crafting, shopping, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling my dog.
I worked with an individual who experienced a great deal of stress and anxiety related to familial relationships. She felt that she was living for others, had a hard time saying “no,” and was unhappy with the outcome of doing things to satisfy others and not herself. Family dynamics and boundary setting were reviewed and discussed in sessions and there was a breakthrough when my client implemented boundaries with family members and began to do things that were more beneficial for and pleasing to herself.
Change does not happen overnight, but with time, patience, determination, dedication, and commitment to the therapeutic process, it can happen. During the counseling process, my clients can expect a safe space to share their innermost thoughts and feelings and will have someone to collaborate with to help them reach their treatment goals and make their desired changes.
The first session with me typically looks like having a normal conversation. Questions are asked to get to know my clients, rapport building begins, polices and confidentiality are discussed, and clients’ expectations of therapy and their goals for treatment are identified.
This journey that we call life has its many challenges, but those challenges can be a little easier to manage with the support of someone who is welcoming, non-judgmental, empathic, and compassionate. Having the opportunity to join clients during challenging times to help them on their journeys toward healing, wholeness, and/or becoming their best self is what motivates me to be a therapist.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
My clients can expect to increase self-awareness, learn healthy coping skills, and strategies to address their identified concerns/issues. They can expect to walk away feeling heard, understood, empowered, and knowing that someone is in their corner to support them throughout their healing journeys.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Reminiscence Therapy & Solution-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I believe that my greatest strength is rapport building. I am very easy to talk to which makes it easier for my clients to openly share with me so that I’m able to support them with addressing the concern/issue(s) they initially sought therapy for.
