Tyler Bray
My name is Tyler Bray (she/her). I am currently a Supervisee of Social Work in the state of VA and working towards being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over 3 years of experience working in different settings including outpatient mental health clinics utilizing telehealth and correctional settings. My main treatment styles are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and solution focused therapy. My goal is to always collaborate with clients to help them reach their desired goals by crafting realistic and attainable treatment plans. I strive to create a judgment free and safe space for clients where authenticity is encouraged. So let’s get to work! I look forward to meeting you.
I worked with a client who struggled with negative self-talk, low motivation, and suicidal ideation. At the beginning of our sessions he stated, “I don’t think I will ever get better.” Throughout our sessions, we worked on his self-worth, boundary setting, and other objectives that helped increase his motivation and improve his depressive symptoms. At the end of our sessions, he found more confidence in himself and skills to set boundaries, structure himself, utilize coping techniques effectively, and give himself credit for the progress he had made and would continue to make.
My therapeutic process is solution focused where the use of empathy, authenticity, empowerment and collaboration helps to create a safe space. I remind clients that as a therapist, I am a trusted guide who can help in reaching your desired goals while providing tools to help in your success.
During our initial session, you can expect working towards building rapport and collaborating on your desired goals in order to tailor your treatment plan. We will discuss what reasons may have brought you to therapy now and related background information. You can also expect to cover any necessary policies that are vital to know.
My passion for helping others has been a huge part of my life since I was young, and social work has allowed me to see the client as a whole and how their life, in all aspects, affects them. There is a saying that some people spend their whole adult life recovering from their childhood. This isn’t always a reason someone seeks therapy, but learning how our past has affected where we are today can be great lessons in understanding how to achieve your present desired goals.
