About Me

Hello, my name is Aaron! I am a licensed professional counselor with several years of experience working in hospitals, community mental health programs, and outpatient settings. My mission is to provide quality mental health counseling that is based in scientific research, tailored to your individual needs, and conducted in a spirit of collaboration between us.

FAQs

One of my teenage clients was struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm behavior. I helped her understand why she needed more intensive therapy than I could provide. After she completed a treatment program, she and I resumed our work together, focusing on her DBT skills. Her suicidal thoughts and self-harm urges decreased almost to zero, and her overall mood brightened. She graduated high school and is looking forward to starting college!

Clients can expect that I will truly listen to them and be worthy of their trust. They can also expect that I will hold them accountable to our agreements so they can get the results they are looking for from their counseling. They should expect to work on therapeutic goals outside of our sessions, not just during them. And they should expect that we will spend considerable time and effort trying to find their balance between self-acceptance and the need for positive change.

We talk about privacy, policies, and treatment expectations, especially if the client has never participated in counseling before. But primarily, we have a conversation, and by the end of it, we both have at least a general idea of what the client wants from counseling, how I can help them achieve it, and what might get in the way.

I have always been curious about what helps people grow into the best versions of themselves. When I began to learn about psychology in college, I found that it explained so much about people that used to confuse and frustrate me. That insight led to feeling understood and hopeful, and I was inspired to make changes that put me more fully in control of my life. Being able to share this gift with others through my work as a counselor is profoundly meaningful to me – it is more of a calling than a job.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I know that people often have doubts about seeking help, so it is important to me that I offer an approach to mental health that can really work. My clients can expect to be guided by a sense of hope as we work towards the concrete positive changes they are seeking.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

Evidence-based treatment is the core of what I provide. I primarily use methods and tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Client-centered Therapy to help my clients create change and find peace of mind.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have helped adults and teens with a wide variety of mental health concerns. I have specialized training in the treatment of anxiety disorders, and I am well-equipped to help with obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-harm urges, guilt and shame, perfectionism, and self-esteem concerns.
