About Me

Hi there, I’m Samantha Powell. I am a licensed clinical social worker with experience working with developmental disabilities, child and adolescent, as well as adult and geriatric clinical psychology settings. My experience ranges from an inpatient psychiatric treatment homes, women’s shelters, school based therapy, to individual therapy. I have worked with anxious behaviors and thought patterns, grief, depression and self harm, relationship therapy, to trauma, and various other concerns that may impact individual and families highest potential. My goal is to work with hand in hand with you tackling barriers to living while working towards strategies to overcome. I use strategies which include evidence based techniques as well as some humanistic and holistic approach.

I have had the pleasure of being able to assist a client manage anxiety through working on thought patterns/process and connecting to behaviors. This person was able to decrease medication and continues to empower themselves continuously.

My approach is integrative, psychodynamic and at times trauma informed. Utilizing a variety of modalities, I work with my clients to identify their strengths and to empower them to work towards their goals.

    My counseling style is client centered. My approach is always to provide support by fitting your needs. I understand that although curriculum can work for some, it may not wok for all. It is important to capture the uniqueness of a person and situation into treatment goals. I want you to feel comfortable with me so that we become a team. Teammates support each other and I aim to support your positive journey.

    What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

    As I learn about the events and relationships that have shaped you into who you are today, I utilize various evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical-behavioral therapy, trauma focused therapy, mindfulness, solution-focused, and psychotherapy. Your treatment plan will be individualized and tailored to fit your specific needs. I am trained in approaches that can create new insights regarding your feelings and behaviors. I also utilize Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, and art therapy.

    Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

    I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations in individual as well as group therapy. I have worked with a wide range of concerns including depression, generalized anxiety, trauma, grief, social anxiety, mood disorders, and psychosis. I have provided personality testing, and neurocognitive assessments. I have additionally worked with individuals with mild/moderate cognitive impairment, autistic spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and their caregivers. While I do work in a general way with all ages and a variety of groups, my focus population is on individual ages 16 and older.
