I'm Emily Stone, I'm a mother of two (10 and 8). We also have a cat, Izzy and dog, Shelby that at times like to make appearances during my sessions. I have been in the human service field since undergrad and felt a calling for counseling after experiencing family suffering with depression, anxiety, and suicidality. During their treatment they made connections with certain therapists that were turning points in their mental health and quality of life. Outside of counseling I enjoy DIY projects around my home, and creating a space for myself and children we are all proud of. I like look at things not for what they are, but what they could be. We like hiking, kayaking, camping, the beach, and spending time with family and friends that feel like family.
During my time doing remote counseling I worked with an individual who was struggling with adjusting to moving, new job, severe anxiety, and negative and intrusive thoughts about his health. During these sessions we were able to recognize his patterns of thought, his automatic coping, and sort through his irrational thoughts along the way teasing out where these patterns started as a child and then shift into intentional living instead of letting it happen to him, regaining control in his life, stopping negative thoughts and worry more readily, and overall improving his daily wellness and self-care.
From the beginning there will be clear goals of what you are needing support with. Some of this might involve processing the situation, teasing out deeper thoughts or realizing patterns in your thinking that are not serving you. While there may be a reason or situation you identify as a problem, life happens and different issues may arise and these are discussions we can process as well. There is no fix all answer and one of the key concepts I have found is self-exploration, self-awareness, and discovering patterns is the starting point of making shifts for overall wellness.
Typically our first session may seem like a lot of questions just to help me fully understand the dynamic and to better understand you. Following this its important that you feel comfortable and start developing rapport. Then we will organize goals and objectives that you feel meet your needs. Most importantly these sessions are for you, so if life happens and you need to process during our session that is completely fine, I'm here to support you.
I felt a calling to become therapist in high school when I saw the positive impact it had on my family member. Through this process I have realized the stigma counseling has in my community and how creating a nonjudgmental and safe place where people can seek support without shame is needed.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
As a counselor, Emily focuses on empowering her clients, giving them tools to move forward and strengthen their self-awareness and coping skills. She believes in utilizing counseling as a wellness tool to realign ones goals with their thoughts and intentional living. Life is not always how we planned and often we do not have the tools or preparation for half of what is thrown at us. Understanding what is in our control and out of our control is key to finding balance in your life. She provides a safe and nonjudgmental environment for her clients to process their inner most thoughts, feelings, and struggles and supports them as the leader in their own life. Being intentional and asking yourself "does this support the life I'm trying to create?" You are worthy of every good thing in your life and stronger than you believe. "Be enough for yourself first. The rest of the world can wait" -Emerson T.
