About Me

Hi! I'm Kayla Jackson, a Clinical Social Worker in Virginia with a passion for helping people help themselves. I want to support you as you pave a new path for yourself, providing honest feedback, strategies, and a safe space as you grow and move in the direction you want to go. I have worked in various settings, including intensive outpatient programs, residential programs, child welfare settings, and intensive in-home settings. I have been able to work with families, groups, refugees, people struggling with homelessness, addiction, serious mental illness, and difficulties adjusting to life changes. I help my clients manage challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship issues. I want to help you know yourself better so that you can feel empowered to take on life's ups and downs. I will be here to support you as you navigate obstacles along the way.

FAQs

One client I will never forget, was a young person struggling with addiction, suicidal thoughts, failing in school, and feeling overwhelmed by family conflict. Through our work together they were able to get sober, graduate high school, get into community college, and stop self-blaming for the problems in their family. Months after we stopped our work together they reached out to let me know what impact our work together had, sharing that they're still sober, confident and now have the know how to deal with life's challenges.

As a therapist who tries to meet each individual where they're at, each experience will be unique. Generally speaking, we will work on your goals together using a variety of interventions that are tailored to you. I will probably begin sessions by inviting you to share what would be helpful to work on today, while keeping focused on your overall goals for therapy. I will empathize with you, provide you with feedback, and together we will find solutions.

My first session is all about getting to know you, to understand what brings you to therapy now, and begin to take a look at what you're hoping for. I want us to get to know one another in the first session so that you can feel comfortable and safe. I will ask questions and provide information, and we might set some goals for our work together.

I'm motivated by my faith in humanity. The world can be a very difficult and dark place at times, but when I see others trying to be the best they can be, persevering in spite of enormous challenges, it gives me hope. I try to be a small light in the world and it's my passion to help others reignite their own light so that they can brighten the world as well. I also know first hand what a difference a helping hand can make, so I am motivated to pay it forward.
