About Me

Hello! I’m Lauren (she/her), a Supervisee in Social Work working towards clinical licensure. I am originally from New England but have lived in the Shenandoah Valley for sixteen years. After receiving my BA in Social Work (BSW) in 2006, I worked in the field as a case manager in adoption, hospital, and nonprofit settings. In 2021, I returned to grad school as an adult learner and graduated with my Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2022. It is my desire to hold nonjudgemental, compassionate space for you to process your experiences. I lean on attachment theory and practice from a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective that I hope helps you to feel seen, supported, and empowered. I enjoy working with a diverse range of people along their journeys toward healing. I also bring knowledge of working through spiritual harm/adverse religious experiences and welcome folks who may be navigating faith transitions. In my spare time, you can find me reading a good book, caring for my plants/cats/kids (not necessarily in that order!), or exploring new cities when life allows for travel. I look forward to meeting you!

FAQs

I have been grateful to witness clients' resilience and breakthroughs. One client came to me completely devastated by a sudden loss. Over many months of work, seeing this individual regain their sense of self, increase confidence, and begin to do things they used to enjoy was very powerful. Therapy provided a time for them to feel their grief and then learn new tools to cope, move forward, and begin to trust themself again.

I see therapy as your time and space, so I typically like for you to be able to use the session as you need, without a prior agenda from me. I have a relational, relaxed approach. I hope we can establish a collaborative relationship with open communication to process what you'd like to address and work towards your goals.

The first session is a time of introducing the therapeutic process as well as getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. This usually involves more information gathering than later sessions, and that can sometimes feel personal or intrusive, so my goal is to cultivate a safe environment for you and work at your pace. That being said, I also want you to get a snapshot of who I am for you to decide if I might be a good fit for what you're looking for.

I know the loneliness of mental health struggles, and I want people to know they are not alone and there is hope.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my strengths lie in my empathy and ability to create and hold space for people's pain. I see you as a person, not a problem, and really believe you have the capacity within yourself to grow and change. I have worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, refugee resettlement, and community mental health organizations, which have equipped me to support individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and needs.
