Hello, my name is Leiah Aleksich, and I am a supervisee in social work with 2 years of individual therapy experience. I primarily help adolescents and young adults who are struggling with life changes, depression, motivation, and more. I work to create a comfortable environment for my clients so that we can focus on identifying emotions, thoughts, and triggers. I believe that no one person is the same, and so we should work around you and the person that you are to develop coping skills that work for you! One of my favorite breakthroughs that I have helped a client with was looking outside of their perspective of the world. Due to their trauma history, they found it difficult to trust anyone, especially when it came to others doing something nice for them. Through discussion of love languages, cognitive reasoning, and trust building exercises, the client was able to stop holding everyone, even their own family, at arms length.
I generally spend the first several sessions focusing on you becoming comfortable and learning more about your background such as likes, dislikes, and other information that may help me help you! At this same time, we will also talk about what your goals are for therapy and once this is established, we will focus on working on finding the underlying trauma, motivation, or source of the symptoms.
The initial session is gathering background information, but I find to be to also spend the first session allowing you to become comfortable and open up about what your goals are for therapy. This allows us to focus on what your wants and needs are!
I have always had a passion for helping people. When I was a teenager, I had someone in my life who helped to change the direction of it for the better, and I want to be that person for someone else. I love seeing a client have a breakthrough or experience success! It makes the job worthwhile.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I have found every client to be different with a unique situation. For this reason, although the primary approach I use is talk therapy, I will work with you to find the approach that works best for you. We will set your goals for what you wish to achieve from therapy then use a variety of approaches to help you process your emotions, thoughts, and assist in sorting out your thoughts or behaviors.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I use a very holistic approach with every client where the focus is on you as a person. I also implement various evidence-based therapies such as Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy. Not only is every situation different, but every person is as well. We will work together to create coping skills and interventions that work best for you!
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I have worked with a wide variety of ages including children, teenagers, and young adults. Not only that, but I have also worked with a variety of different diagnosis such as depression, anxiety, trauma, social anxiety, grief and loss, mood disorders, ADHD, and autism. I also take a special interest in working with clients who experience alexithymia (impaired ability to be aware of, explicitly identify, and describe one's feelings) and developing the skills and tools used to identify their emotions to allow you to better regulate them.
