Hello! I am Maya Person, a Supervisee in Social Work working towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. I have the beneficial opportunity to work in several mental health capacities with diverse backgrounds; with children, teenagers, adults, families, and couples including: social service, foster care, juvenile detention centers, residential and school settings, substance and community-based outpatient therapy.
I was able to assist a family in gaining insight with parenting skills, communication, age appropriate rewards/consequences, school behavioral problems, problem-solving abilities and prevent out-of-home placement. This was done by addressing multiple systems and working collaboratively with the family and the multidisciplinary team.
In our sessions, the goal is to tell your narrative while working towards healing holistically and using newly identified preventative tools.
In our first session, I typically focus on establishing a safe space by getting to know each other and making sure we are a good fit to work together. This initial session, allows me to build rapport and establish trust by exploring challenges you are facing, set goals, discuss confidentiality and identify your reasons for seeking therapy.
What motivates me as a Clinician is knowing how impactful, powerful and transformative therapy is.
