Our privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online. When and what personal information do we collect from the people that visit our website?

On our site, if you choose to utilize the “contact us” feature, you will be asked to voluntarily share your name, phone number and email address. You may also choose to share your email address only through the “subscribe” feature in the bottom page menu.  On this site there is an opportunity for you to take the Transition Discoveries Quality Indicator Survey. Detailed information about this survey, including informed consent is automatically provided prior to data collection by the website. This survey does not collect the following personally identifiable information: Name, Address, Phone Number, IP Address. The survey collects the following demographic information:
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Professional Role
  • Ethnicity
  • School District
Users will also have the opportunity to share information about their transition experiences through the website’s blog, gallery and social media feeds. All opportunities to share such information, which may be written text, video and/or audio recordings, are always considered “volunteering” and therefore, at no point are individuals compensated for these contributions. All individuals have the right to keep their identity anonymous and unassociated with the content that they contribute.

Your personal information is contained behind the George Washington University's secured network, safeguarded by highly trained information security professionals and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential.

Transition Discoveries uses a number of third-party providers to host our website, share resources and manage our communication with site users related to their involvement within the site and the TD initiative. However, under no circumstances do we sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personally Identifiable Information collected via the “contact us” form of this site to any outside parties.

At times, the TD initiative may include or offer third-party information, products or services related to transition on our website. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We, therefore, have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.
Child Online Privacy Protection (COPPA)
The primary goal of COPPA is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their young children online. The Rule was designed to protect children under age 13 while accounting for the dynamic nature of the Internet. We strictly follow these federal guidelines.
Fair Information Practices
In the case of a data breach, we will notify you via email within 7 business days and we will notify the users via in-site notification within 7 business days. We also agree to the Individual Redress Principle which requires that individuals have the right to legally pursue enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. This principle requires not only that individuals have enforceable rights against data users, but also that individuals have recourse to courts or government agencies to investigate and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors. 
CAN-SPAM Act
In respecting your right to control the email and messages that you receive from the TD initiative, we will:
  • Not use false or misleading subjects or email addresses.
  • Identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way.
  • Include the physical address of our business or site headquarters.
  • Monitor third-party email marketing services for compliance, if one is used.
  • Honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests quickly.
  • Allow users to unsubscribe to any and all notifications
