About Nick Toney
Nick’s journey into this field began with his own experience in therapy, which provided him with a deep, personal understanding of emotional processing. His approach is grounded in a holistic and naturalistic view of health and human nature, highlighting the dynamic connection between the mind, body, and environment. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines—including philosophy, psychology, biology, human development, and anthropology—Nick offers a thoughtful, integrative perspective in his work. He believes emotional expression is a key part of healing and sees value in understanding our fundamental human nature as a guide for navigating today’s world. Nick identifies as non-religious and non-judgmental, and he is driven by a sincere desire to support the well-being of all people and the world around them.
FAQs
A woman presented to me, perplexed by her life-long struggle with selective mutism. She briefly mentioned a deceased cousin—the first person she felt comfortable sharing silence with. We revisited a typical day sitting with her cousin in her hectic family home. Although they didn’t talk, she swore they were genuinely telepathic. Skeptical, I asked if what he communicated was “love.” She nodded and began to cry deeply over unprocessed grief from losing her cousin at only five years old.
Talking, expressing feelings, critically thinking about problems, and experimenting with solutions are all parts of sessions with me.
Generally, our first session will look like learning more about each other and identifying problems and goals.
When I was 23, I experienced a juxtaposition of a negative and traumatized life and a positive and healthy one. I had had my first mental breakthrough, cried deeply, processed trauma, and left my therapist's office a radically different and more positive person. It showed me how dramatically our mental health flavors our experience. I want everyone who could benefit to have the improvement in quality of life that I experienced through emotional processing and healthy lifestyle changes.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I aim to offer clients a relationship where they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings with honesty. I hope to help people be more positive, loving, secure, vulnerable, honest, connected, and the like in their daily lives and relationships. I will likely encourage you to critically think about what it means to be human and how modern society may be affecting you. Theoretically, I try to reason from first principles. For instance, themes such as security/insecurity, control/freedom, or resistance/acceptance may arise in our discussions. Ido not want to be seen as an authority figure, but want the value of our work together to be judged alone.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, mainly focusing on Psychotherapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Foremost, I believe our relationships are the most fulfilling aspect of life. Moreover, I believe I can help people improve their mind, body, and environment. First, I have personally experienced trauma processing and have unique ideas regarding it. Second, I believe I have a well-founded understanding of human nature and the human body, which I can wield to help clients identify dysfunction and craft healthier lifestyles. Third, I have lived in unique places that have shown me how profoundly our environment can affect our minds.
