About Taylor Hiers

Hi! I'm Taylor, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, where I studied psychology and counseling at Liberty University. I consider my approach as collaborative, person-centered, and practical. Therapy with me is focused on partnering together to understand your story and how it has shaped you. I aim to offer you a supportive space to navigate life’s challenges. I often work with people experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, and life transitions. I have a heart for women navigating motherhood, identity shifts, or infertility. I spent years in management roles and find I work well with people in fast paced careers who are struggling with burnout, boundaries, or maintaining their sense of self amid professional demands. I know personal tidbits may help guide you in your choice - I’m a married mom of three kids with wide age gaps, including one adopted child and one born through a journey with infertility. Our home is full of energy and strong personalities. I love coffee, nature, reading, and sunshine!

FAQs

I find that breakthroughs are often slow and steady. It's the realization that change has occurred that brings the"aha moment". I remember working with a young client who was routinely making decisions that were more harmful than helpful. By processing life experiences, decision making, and ways these tied together, this helped them shift the focus to the future. Ultimately the realization was that these decisions were immediately gratifying, but were not helping meet future goals. Watching the shift of helpful, goal oriented decisions take the place of past patterns was amazing to witness!

My goal is to create a comfortable and intentional space where you can be supported as we work towards meaningful change together. I believe that there is great importance in understanding your past experiences, while putting a focus on your hopes for the future. I balance listening and understanding with thoughtful feedback and collaborative goals.

The first session is a time to get to know you and start to understand the full picture of your situation. I keep things conversational, and my number one goal is to ensure you feel comfortable! I typically allow clients to do most of the talking in session, though the first session often requires me to ask more questions to get a well rounded picture of your needs. I also like to allow time and space for any questions you may have about the process. My intention is for you walk away from the first appointment feeling hopeful!

Throughout my work, I’ve seen that healing is deeply rooted in connection. Being heard and understood can be just as powerful as any clinical intervention. I’m especially drawn to those moments when clients take the risk to be vulnerable, and through that leap of openness, experience meaningful insight and change.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My style is solution focused and conversational. I strive for our interactions in session to feel like having coffee with a mentor - helping you stay aligned with your values and goals, and working to help guide the process. I aim to be someone you can trust to listen without judgement, encourage you, challenge you, and to be the coach in your corner cheering you on! If you’re open to it, we may plan some practical exercises between sessions to help reinforce what we’re working on and keep momentum throughout the week.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy & Trauma-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe I create a warm and inviting space for clients to come as they are. Therapy with me is focused on partnering together to understand your story and how it shaped you, clarifying your goals, and helping you take meaningful steps towards living a whole, fulfilling life. I'm not afraid of sitting with you in your discomfort, and I am here to help you sort through your situation, no matter how messy. I am also quite comfortable integrating your faith into our work together if that is important to you.
