FAQs
I have a client who suffered with debilitating depression. This particular client was putting into to action all coping skills he had to help with his depression. Client was a self harmer to when he struggled during his severe episodes with depression. Client and writer started from basics and built client back up with also providing client with a provider for medication. Client and writer started with simple goals and have gradually built himself from dependent on family and not being able to work to living on his own, attending school and manging a full time job.
One of my most meaningful clinical experiences involved working with a client who presented with debilitating depression and a history of self-harm during severe depressive episodes. At the start of treatment, the client struggled to function independently despite consistently attempting to use the coping skills he had learned. His symptoms significantly impaired his ability to work, attend school, and manage daily responsibilities. Treatment began by establishing a strong therapeutic relationship and focusing on stabilization. Together, we identified small, attainable goals and built upon them gradually. I also assisted the client in connecting with a psychiatric provider for medication management to complement therapy. Throughout treatment, we focused on developing healthy coping strategies, strengthening emotional regulation, increasing distress tolerance, and improving self-esteem.
During our first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive and judgement-free environment where we can begin to get to know one another. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy and your current concerns and goals you hope to achieve. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share what you're looking for in a therapist, and determine if we are a good fit. My goal is for you to leave the session feeling heard and supported.
What motivates me most as a therapist is witnessing the transformation that can occur when clients begin to believe in themselves again. I enjoy helping people who feel stuck, hopeless, or overwhelmed recognize that change is possible, even if it starts with the smallest steps. I am especially motivated by working with individuals facing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders because I know recovery is possible with the right combination of support, evidence-based treatment, and genuine therapeutic connection. I believe in meeting clients where they are, helping them identify their strengths, and celebrating every milestone along the way.
