About Allison Herman

Hi, I’m Allie Herman, MA, LPC! I have 13 years of experience as a therapist supporting adolescents and adults through a variety of challenges. I believe therapy should be a space where you can show up as your authentic self, feel understood, and talk openly without fear of judgment.

My approach is warm, conversational, and collaborative, helping teens and adults navigate anxiety, mood disorders, emotional regulation, and life’s challenges. I’m passionate about providing affirming, inclusive care, including support for the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals navigating BPD. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, work through difficult patterns, and create meaningful change in a space where you can feel comfortable being you.

FAQs

One particularly meaningful breakthrough involved working with a teenager who initially presented as very closed off and hesitant to engage in therapy. Rather than pushing her to open up before she was ready, I focused on building rapport, establishing trust, and creating a space where she felt safe and understood.

Over time, she became more comfortable sharing her thoughts and emotions and was able to begin facing challenges that had previously felt overwhelming. Watching her gradually become more open, develop greater insight into her experiences, and gain the confidence to work through difficult situations reinforced my belief that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. It was a powerful reminder that sometimes the most important first step is helping a client feel safe enough to let someone in.

Clients can expect a collaborative, conversational approach to therapy where building trust and feeling comfortable are the first priorities. I take time to get to know each client, understand their experiences, and identify goals that feel meaningful to them.

As therapy progresses, we work together to explore patterns, understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop practical strategies for navigating challenges. I incorporate CBT, reflective questions, and open conversations to help clients build insight and make meaningful changes. Every client's process looks different, and I strive to meet each person where they are while creating a space that balances support, honesty, and growth.

The first session is all about getting to know each other and helping you feel comfortable. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to get out of the process. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out or know exactly where to start. I want you to have the opportunity to ask questions, share at your own pace, and get a feel for whether we’re a good fit. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free space where we can begin building trust and figure out together what moving forward might look like.

I’m motivated by the opportunity to build genuine connections with clients and help them feel understood, supported, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges. Seeing someone become more comfortable opening up, gain insight into themselves, and grow in confidence reminds me why I love this work. I’m passionate about creating a space where people can show up as their authentic selves and work toward meaningful change.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, your personal history, your current concerns and what you hope to gain from our work together. We’ll also review any questions you have about the therapy process so you know what to expect moving forward.

My goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where you can share at your own pace. You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. By the end of our first session, we’ll begin identifying goals and create a plan that feels realistic, personalized, and meaningful to you.

Which evidence-based modalities do you specialize in, and how are they applied?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Couples Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Strength-Based Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
One of my biggest strengths as a therapist is my ability to build genuine connections with clients and create a space where they feel comfortable being themselves without fear of judgment. My conversational and collaborative approach allows me to help clients explore their emotions, recognize patterns, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. I strive to balance empathy and validation with meaningful growth, helping clients feel supported while empowering them to make changes that align with their goals and values.
