About Meredith Wymer

Meredith Wymer is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing medication management across the lifespan. In addition to her current work in the outpatient mental health setting as a nurse practitioner, she previously spent seven years working as a psychiatric registered nurse in a variety of inpatient settings, caring for individuals with a wide range of conditions including mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, and trauma-related conditions.

FAQs

One meaningful breakthrough I’ve witnessed was working with a patient over time who had long been hesitant to try
medication due to fears of becoming dependent on it. Through ongoing collaboration, they eventually felt comfortable
enough to trial a medication. As their symptoms improved, they began to feel more like themselves and experienced a
sense of empowerment they hadn’t had before. This shift allowed them to engage more fully in other strategies to support
their wellbeing, ultimately recognizing that medication was simply a tool that helped them see how capable they were of
supporting their own wellbeing in the long run, with or without it.

Clients can expect a collaborative, individualized process where we regularly assess how you’re feeling and adjust the plan as needed. I incorporate medication management with practical strategies and brief therapeutic support, while considering how lifestyle and external factors impact symptoms. You will be actively involved in decision-making, with a focus on what is effective and sustainable for you.

My first priority is creating a sense of safety and support, recognizing that meeting a new provider and discussing personal
experiences can feel overwhelming, especially when some topics are sensitive or vulnerable. I move at a pace that feels
comfortable for each client and focus on building trust from the start.
From there, the initial session is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that looks at the full picture across the client’s
lifespan. We explore current concerns as well as relevant history, including upbringing, past treatment, medical history, and
social and lifestyle factors. This thorough approach helps clarify how different aspects of a person’s life have contributed to
where they are now and informs the most appropriate next steps. While I aim to be as comprehensive as possible in order
to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions, I strive to balance this with flexibility and collaboration so the process does not
feel rushed or overwhelming.

I’m motivated to help people reclaim as much of their life back as possible by helping them feel like themselves again. I
focus on finding what truly improves day-to-day functioning so patients can move forward with more stability and
confidence.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I take an individualized and collaborative approach to care, aimed at achieving accurate diagnosis, making thoughtful decisions regarding medication use, and incorporating practical strategies that improve day-to-day functioning. I work closely with patients to review treatment options, reflect on how interventions are impacting them, and adjust the plan together over time. I emphasize transparency and collaboration, so patients feel informed and involved in decisions, rather than being told what to do. I aim to create an environment that supports the open and honest communication that is essential for meaningful, lasting progress.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Solution-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my strength lies in my commitment to developing as comprehensive an understanding as possible. I recognize that mental health does not exist in isolation, so I strive to consistently consider factors such as life circumstances, lifestyle, and medical conditions when making treatment decisions with a client.
