About Amy Thompkins

Hi, I’m Amy Thompkins and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With almost 20 years of nursing experience, I’ve had the privilege of caring for people through many stages of life—first as a registered nurse in emergency, medical-surgical, and postpartum settings, and now as a psychiatric provider. My work is guided by a deep belief that mental health care should honor the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I’m passionate about helping adolescents and adults navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where healing and growth can take root.

FAQs

A memorable breakthrough was helping a client with severe anxiety learn to quiet their inner critic and approach challenges with more confidence. Through mindfulness and reframing techniques, they began to experience calm and self-assurance in situations that once felt overwhelming. Seeing their growth and renewed sense of empowerment was incredibly rewarding.

Clients can expect a counseling process that is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to their individual needs. We’ll begin by building trust and exploring the challenges or goals that brought you to therapy. Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that may include a blend of therapeutic conversations, mindfulness strategies, and, when appropriate, medication management. My approach centers on understanding you as a whole person and supporting your growth at your own pace.

Your first session is all about getting to know you. We’ll spend time talking about what brought you in, what challenges you’re facing, and what goals you’d like to work toward. I’ll ask questions to better understand your background, symptoms, and overall well-being so we can begin to see the full picture together. You can expect a relaxed, supportive space where we explore your goals and begin creating a plan that feels right for you. My hope is that you leave feeling understood and encouraged about the next steps in your care.

I am motivated by the unique opportunity to help people feel seen, understood, and supported during some of the most challenging times in their lives. Throughout my years working in the medical field, I’ve witnessed how transformative it can be when someone feels safe enough to share their story and begin healing. I’m inspired by the courage my clients show every day as they work toward greater self-awareness, balance, and growth. I consider it a great privilege to be able to walk alongside people in the journey of self realization and recovery.
