Hi! I'm Ashley (She/Her) and I am a licensed clinical social worker, who has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with challenges related to anxiety, depression, self-harm, life transitions, gender identity and sexuality, school/work stress and more. I enjoy working with any individual(s) striving to make their lives better and I am passionate about helping people in that process. I use a personalized approach, meant to foster a supportive environment, embrace mistakes, and encourage growth. In my free time, I'm a big foodie who loves to travel. If I'm not with family or friends, you might find me at a movie theater or in the local Barnes and Noble looking for a lighthearted or fantasy romance novel.
I recently helped a client to better understand her shortcomings about sexual health and helped her to increase her knowledge and understanding of herself and her body - to be able to set boundaries for herself, that helped her to feel more comfortable and confident in an area where she had never felt that before.
I am a client-centered clinician that uses a variety of evidenced based approaches to address client concerns. I like to allow my clients to guide what the sessions look like in terms of topics, so each session is personalized to the client and their areas of interest or concern. I work with the clients to identify, address and overcome their challenges, as an educator, counselor, advocate or mediator.
Initial sessions with me are meant to feel like a "get to know you" session. We often discuss the situations or feelings that brought you into therapy, the factors that contribute to your life holistically, and we identify goals, challenges, and strengths.
The thing that really motivates me to be a therapist is wanting to change the voice and face of therapy. It sometimes amazes me how little people know about what therapy is and how it works. Something important to me is helping people understand that therapy is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. To show anyone, but particularly BIPOC, that it's okay to need help and talk with someone. Therapist can be people that look like us, talk like us and come from where we're from. Additionally, therapy isn't always what it looks like on TV and in movies. We are each our own people, with our own methods, approaches, and personalities.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
When working with me, you can anticipate a friendly but professional atmosphere. I truly believe that each person is the expert in their own lives, and it is my job to work with my clients to empower them to make the changes they want to see in their lives. I am passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves, whatever that may look like for them! My hope is for a person to leave each session feeling lighter than when they entered, or having learned something about themselves they can use in their everyday life. My biggest goal is to make sure my clients feel seen and heard if nothing else; to know that someone is listening and someone cares.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy & Modified Art and Narrative Therapies.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My biggest strength is in my ability to understand and relate to my clients. I live in the real world just like you do, and I understand the way that intersectionality, and systemic things like racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. can impact our lives in big and small ways. I am very easy-going, which is always a strength as it makes me easy to talk to. And my desire to create an environment that is affirming, collaborative, and non-judgmental is a strength as well.
