FAQs

I worked with a client who had lost a loved one with whom he was very close. Over the course of treatment, this client learned to accept the loss and integrate it into his daily life. He took up playing Chess and participating in other hobbies his loved one had, and started to build self-confidence and form new relationships from these. Thus, he was able to honor his loved one's memory while simultaneously growing as a person, himself.

The counseling process with me is geared toward building a trusting relationship where we can process your thoughts, feelings, and relationships in a way that makes you feel comfortable and safe. Sometimes sessions might look conversational, other times they might be educational, as you learn new skills or things about yourself. Regardless, the goal will be to take away something from every session that can help you as you navigate your daily life.

The first session with me is the opportunity for me to hear your story and start to build our connection as therapist/client. During this time, the two main goals are making you feel comfortable with processing with me, and me developing my understanding of where you are coming from and what you are going through.

As cliche as it may sound, my primary motivation to be a therapist was my desire to help people. I found the best way to do this was to learn about others and hear their stories. And, from that, what I found was that many people allowed their thoughts or the patterns they have learned to greatly affect their lives, often not for good. So, helping individuals to find new ways of thinking, acting, and connecting became my pursuit in therapy.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During sessions, clients can expect to have the opportunity to express themselves and process anything that is going on in their lives in a safe, validating, and open environment. Additionally, they can expect that they will work to examine how they think about and respond to the situations in their lives. From there, we will work together to consider how their patterns of thinking can help or hinder their progress, how they can improve how they view themselves and their lives, and how they react to the events in their lives. Throughout all of this, they can expect to be treated with respect, dignity, and unconditional positive regard.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing  & Solution-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my biggest strength is my ability to understand clients' perspectives and meet them where they are in their lives. Each person has a unique story to tell, and listening and tuning into where someone comes from and what they have experienced is crucial in building a strong therapeutic relationship.
