About Meredith Serbanica
I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience supporting individuals through diverse, complex mental health journeys. My foundation as a clinician was shaped in part by my service as a US Navy Nurse Corps Officer stationed in Japan, where I gained a deep appreciation for cross-cultural resilience and trauma-informed care.
I believe healing is both a clinical science and a deeply human art. Alongside my career, I am pursuing an MFA in poetry and play the harp—creative practices that sharpen my capacity to listen closely, notice nuance, and hold space for the stories people carry.
FAQs
I worked with a client who had been prescribed a medication for 15 years following a severe trauma. While it initially provided relief, she remained trapped in a cycle of hypervigilance and intrusive symptoms despite years of dedicated therapy and a stable life.
Through our evaluation, we explored a critical piece of psychoeducation she had never been given: while these medications offer vital short-term stabilization, long-term use can blunt the brain’s ability to engage in 'extinction learning'—the neurobiological process necessary for the brain to safely rewire, desensitize, and heal from traumatic memories. The very medication meant to protect her was quietly stalling her recovery.
Together, guided by the Groot Method, we implemented a gradual, micro-adjusted taper while bolstering her somatic coping tools. As the medication cleared, she found that her therapy finally began to take root. Experiencing her emotions allowed her to genuinely process the past—she reconnected with her faith, and for the first time in over a decade, she felt truly in control of her life.
We discuss a structured approach that ebbs and flows with your progress and comfort level. My goal is to facilitate and lead you through a deeply holistic, individually tailored plan of care that fosters lasting independence. I promote expressive art techniques to create a safe, thorough place to explore, process, and heal beyond just words.
Our work begins by clarifying your goals, establishing a comfortable pace, and reviewing your medical and mental health history through a comprehensive diagnostic screening. Trauma history is approached gently, only when you feel emotionally safe.
βLooking at your whole life, we examine lifestyle foundations—like sleep, nutrition, movement, and social connection—alongside your past medication trials. Together, we weigh all your options, whether through therapy, medication, or a combined approach. If medication is part of your care, you will receive clear education on what to expect, potential risks, warning signs to watch for, and emergency contacts so you are always supported.
I have found a profound stillness from listening to the complexities of the human condition —a peace I feel called to share. My aim is to walk alongside you, using creative expression and gentle care to cultivate a sanctuary where healing unfolds in its own time and serenity becomes your own.
