About Purvesh Shelat

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals through a variety of mental health concerns and life challenges. I believe that seeking therapy is a meaningful step toward growth, healing, and creating positive change. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Throughout my career, I have provided mental health services in hospital settings, community programs, and group home environments. In these settings, I have gained experience providing both individual therapy and group therapy to individuals with diverse backgrounds and clinical needs. Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, exercising, and playing video games.

FAQs

One of the most meaningful parts of my work as a therapist is witnessing clients move from feeling overwhelmed and stuck to recognizing their own strengths and ability to create change. Seeing individuals develop healthier coping skills, build confidence, and regain hope as they work toward their goals is one of the most rewarding experiences in my career.

Clients can expect a collaborative and supportive counseling experience where we work together to understand their concerns, identify goals, and develop practical strategies for growth and change. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experiences and making progress at their own pace.

During the first session, I focus on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and learning about your goals and expectations. We will discuss your background, current challenges, and areas where you would like support. My goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming environment while beginning to build a strong therapeutic relationship.

The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and support individuals during their most challenging moments. I value the trust clients place in me and find it rewarding to witness their growth, resilience, and progress over time. My passion for this work comes from seeing people recognize their strengths, overcome obstacles, and move toward a more fulfilling life.
