Venessa is a strengths-based therapist who works collaboratively with clients to identify goals, build new skills, and promote healing and growth. I helped a client recognize the trauma associated with their abusive and dysfunctional family patterns after managing years of internalized guilt, shame, and depression. This realization allowed them to process their traumatic experiences and challenge cognitive distortions, promoting a healthier worldview, improving self-esteem, and decreasing feelings of suicidal ideation.
My counseling process does not have a “one size fits all” format. After a client and I have established rapport in our relationship, we will then work together to figure out what feels best for them in session. This often happens naturally.
The first session is generally focused on intake paperwork, where I’ll ask prompted questions and type responses on my computer. I emphasize to clients that this is the only time an appointment will feel so structured. From there, we will discuss goals and build rapport, as well as schedule the next session.
