About Alexis Schneider
Hi, I’m Alexis! I was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. My husband and I have been happily married for four years. He is active duty in the United States Air Force, which has taken us to all over the east coast. We have two cats, Sushi and Oreo, and are looking forward to starting a family of our own soon. In my free time, you’ll find me reading, walking or doing pilates, trying new restaurants, spending time with my friends and family, or watching the Philadelphia Eagles.
FAQs
I was working with an adult male client who had Borderline Personality Disorder and a long history of frequent self-harm. Together, we were able to shift his perspective and focus on short-term goals that lowered his frequency of self-harm. He shared with me that no one had previously cared enough to actually listen to his reasoning for self-harming or tried to come up with tools that fit into his life to help him achieve his goals.
Change does not happen overnight, but with patience, determination, and commitment to the therapeutic process, it can happen. My clients can expect me to meet them where they are emotionally, honoring their lived experiences and recognizing what makes them who they are. Therapy sessions typically last around an hour and my clients’ treatment plans are created collaboratively, keeping their goals as the priority.
A first therapy session with me is designed to be a welcoming experience. We usually begin with introductions and a brief discussion about the purpose of therapy. I take time to explain the therapeutic process, confidentiality, and answer any questions my clients have. I want to ensure that clients are informed, expectations are clear, and that they leave feeling that our time was intentional and that they were involved from the start.
I believe that every individual already has strength, resilience, and the ability to grow within them. Being a therapist allows me to walk alongside clients as they face life’s challenges and help them gain insights into their behaviors, find purpose in their experiences, develop healthier coping skills, and achieve their personal and relational goals. Being able to witness and be a part of these changes is incredibly fulfilling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I believe that my greatest strength is seeing and supporting people through their struggles. My approach is warm, person-centered, and humanistic, blending different evidence-based methods to meet my clients where they are. I like to keep in mind that we are all people experiencing life for the first time and facing challenges, expected and unexpected, along the way. None of us are perfect, but when we face challenges together, things aren’t quite as heavy to carry.
