FAQs
Some significant client breakthroughs that come to mind have been in supporting clients following them receiving major diagnoses such as ADHD, Bipolar disorder, or Autism. It has been incredibly rewarding to help them with re-contextualizing their lives and experiences, and realizing that some of their lifelong difficulties were not so much the result of any personal failing, but rather a symptom of their diagnosis that they had not yet understood or learned to adapt to.
Sessions with me are generally client-led, meaning that our focus will be on whatever you bring into session - whether that's stress you've experienced throughout the week, or past trauma. As our work together progresses, I will be able to help you increase your insight into patterns of thought or behavior that may be maladaptive, and work with you towards establishing healthier patterns.
For any first session, I think it's important to talk through your reasons for seeking counseling, a bit about yourself and your history (which you may share at your own pace and comfort), and what you have found helpful - or unhelpful - in the past. It's also a great opportunity for you to ask me any questions to ensure that I will be the best fit for your goals!
One of my driving motivations as a therapist is my hope to make a positive impact by giving a listening ear to those that may never have had the opportunity to share their experiences in a supportive environment without judgment.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
My biggest priority is establishing a comfortable and nonjudgmental environment for you to feel safe in sharing yourthoughts and experiences with me. I often find it beneficial to integrate systemic considerations in session - we do notexist in isolation, and accounting for family, cultural, and societal factors allows us to better identify what is and isn'twithin our control, empowering you to better make any wanted changes that are within your control.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) & Existential Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I feel that some of my biggest strengths are building a positive, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, and helpingclients come to realize their own strengths!
