Meera is an animal lover, adventurer, and enthusiast of all things tasty. She lives in Richmond with her partner, two cats, and two dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, experimenting with new recipes, hiking with her pups, playing trivia with friends, and going rock climbing. Mental health has been a passion of hers for many years, and she considers it an honor to walk alongside others through their growth and challenges.
In my career, I've helped lots of folks make big changes and "breakthroughs", but what has been the most rewarding for me has been helping people understand and grow through their trauma to find self compassion, empowerment, and joy on the other side of grief.
The counseling process will always depend on the relationship between the therapist and client. In the first few sessions, we'll get to know each other and narrow in on what some of the client's goals are for therapy and what growth/progress looks like for them. In sessions after defining those goals, we might spend time practicing skills, processing through emotions, celebrating achievements, discussing setbacks, and so much more. Once we get towards completing those initial goals, we might create new ones or think about discharge.
Mostly I like to spend the first session getting to know each other! I'll typically have some questions to ask as jumping off points, but more than anything it will look like a conversation.
I took my first psychology class when I was 16 and was completely fascinated by how the brain works and why people think the way they do--this was my initial motivator, and it still exists to some extent. That motivation has grown into a steadfast belief in the power of healing out loud and leaving the world a better place than I found it.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I hope that clients will take away a sense of connection from sessions with me. No single session will be able to solve all of life's struggles--the real power of healing is in connection, laughter, and vulnerability.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy & Trauma-Focused Therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I think my biggest strengths are my creativity (in reframing and problem solving; I can't be trusted with anything more crafty than a paint by number), my authenticity, and my willingness to ask the hard questions when the time arises.
