FAQs

A significant breakthrough that I had with one of my clients was with a client who was having substance abuse issues that were greatly impacting his marriage. We worked through the ways in which his substance use was impacting his marriage and the negative consequences he was having in his life. We discussed his motivating factors in wanting to stop abusing substances and about the strategies that would help him avoid substance in the future. It was especially gratifying working with this client because I was able to see the improvements in him, but also the ways it helped his marriage.

The earlier sessions are about getting to know and understand the client. There will be a lot of deep reflection and a lot of considerations of what the client is hoping to get out of therapy and what they are hoping to improve and change. As the sessions go on, I believe it’s important for the therapist and the client to work together in figuring out the best solutions that will work for them. This is a very individualistic process that allows specific planning. This will be done through an open and nurturing environment, giving the client space to discuss what is most important to them.

The first session is really about getting to know the client and understanding them as a person and their experiences to give a springboard into future sessions. I believe it’s very important early on to establish trust and an environment where a client is most comfortable. This will allow for a foundation for setting goals.

What motivates me to be a therapist is trying to help people become the best version of who they want to be. Often in life, people need a neutral third-party, who understands how to listen, reflect, and provide appropriate feedback. Having that neutral third-party often helps people get to a point they would not have otherwise gotten to on their own. Seeing the progress and change in people is what I find rewarding and motivates me to want to be in this helping profession.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I think it’s vital to establish trust and rapport early on in the therapeutic relationship. I emphasize a calm and comfortable environment for clients so they can feel free to express what is most important to them. I think that’s essential for people to best set goals and to figure out next steps. I work from a client-centered perspective emphasizing the areas in which people want to make changes in their lives. I work with clients to try and help them have the healthiest and most rational perspective and mindset to accomplish whatever they’re looking to achieve. I think it’s very important for a therapist to get to know their client and really understand their client to best understand how to help.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy & Solution-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel some of my biggest strengths are in being empathic and nurturing to allow clients to feel a safe space to think deeply and freely. I think it’s important to take a pace that is comfortable for a client and not rush ahead to try and get to solutions. I think it’s important to be where the client is at and at that point to become solution focused. I also think I provide a structured and organized environment for clients to consider what’s most important to them in trying to figure out the best solutions possible.
