FAQs

One breakthrough that stands out involves a client who had completed several tours in theater/combat. The client experienced long-term trauma, struggled with survivors' guilt and held deep feelings of shame, unworthiness and self blame. Through a trauma informed and strength based approach, I worked to help the client understand how their past experiences shaped their beliefs about themself and their relationships. Over time, the client was able to reframe those beliefs and agreed to continue therapy, as he reported feeling heard and understood for the first time. The client developed healthier coping strategies and demonstrated self love that not only impacted the client, but the client’s relationships were improved as well. Observing the client see themselves from a place of unworthiness & self criticism to self compassion was very meaningful.

Clients can expect a collaborative, respectful & non-judgmental environment with a person-centered approach, where individuals feel heard and supported.

The first session is primarily focused on building rapport and creating a comfortable space for the client. I begin reviewing informed consent, confidentiality and the counseling process, so that the client understands what to expect and has the opportunity to ask questions. We explore the concerns that brought the client to counseling, to include their current challenges and any relevant personal social or family history that may help inform treatment. I ask about the client’s strengths, supports and goals for therapy. My priority in the first session is helping the client feel safe, heard, respected, understood and hopeful about the counseling process.

I am motivated by observing clients learn to be kind to themselves as they navigate challenging situations. I love to see people reach their full potential whatever that may look like for them
