Shannon Dempsey

Shannon is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with six years of nursing experience in the psychiatric field, including child and adult inpatient care, community mental health crisis stabilization, and substance use treatment. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers State University and began her career as a psychiatric nurse in an inpatient hospital setting. While pursuing her graduate degree at Wilkes University, Shannon worked as a travel nurse, providing inpatient psychiatric care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Her clinical focus includes the treatment of mood disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, substance use, and chronic mental illness. Shannon specializes in psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief psychotherapeutic interventions for adult clients ages 18 to 65.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

A client can expect their initial visit to include a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, determination of treatment goals and education about diagnosis and available treatment options. I have the pleasure of working alongside many skilled and experienced clinicians and am happy to collaborate and coordinate care with them when appropriate to the clients’ needs. You can expect to feel heard in our sessions and part of the decision-making process to reach your treatment goals!

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Solution-Focused Therapy.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, my focus is patient-centered. I believe strongly in patient autonomy and will collaborate with you throughout the entire decision-making process to ensure a tailored treatment plan appropriate for your needs.
