Breakthroughs with clients are powerful and meaningful and can happen in a counseling session or without the counselor ever knowing. One example of this was when this therapist was in a restaurant and an adult approached me thanking me for working with their child who is now a successful adult. The parent said their adult child still contributes their well being and contributions they make in the world to coming to therapy and learning how to be their own best friend. This gave them the confidence to realize dreams. The parent was so proud to share this.
Counseling is a collaborative process where a client gives themselves the time and space to feel and express and understand their feelings. Empathy and nonjudgement is supported to create a road map for goal setting and wellness to continue.
A session will typically be 45-60 minutes. The first session will be an Intake to understand reason for counseling and to review medical, mental health and wellness history. This session will be an opportunity to create a plan for future sessions and goals to be achieved. This will allow the client and therapist to start therapeutic rapport. General education about depression, anxiety, trauma or reasons for therapy will also be included. A mental health diagnosis will be formulated with the client and an understanding and education of the meaning of this will be given.
Therapy is an honor to offer others. The courage that clients demonstrate in wanting to create change in their lives is inspiring. Creating a space to acknowledge growth to connect with others who in return will connect to their lives in a meaningful way motivates me everyday . I value therapy as another support in all of our lives especially when feeling alone with life challenges.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients will be offered a safe and confidential space to express themselves freely. To be deeply listened to for increased awareness and understaning of themselves. To collaborate in the counseling process to feel control, formulate goals and achieve life balance for resiliency and momentum to flourish.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize evidence-based therapies, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Empowering and collaborating with clients to move forward are therapeutic goals. For clients to get unstuck from strong emotional responses using holistic approaches are my biggest strength. To create interventions uniquely based on client aspirations for increased self confidence, self esteem, power/control, safety, trust and intimacy with self, others and the world are part of this process.
