About Me

Hello! My name is Casey Yenyo (she/her). I received my bachelor's in social work from Christopher Newport University and a Master's of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have two years of clinical experience in the behavioral and mental health field. My experience comes from community mental health where I worked with many amazing people, both children and adults. I have a passion for working with individuals who have experienced trauma, and admire their bravery to work through difficult and upsetting events. I earned a certificate in Gender Violence Intervention from Virginia Commonwealth University which has allowed me to work with a wide variety of individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual violence. I also have a background in working in women's health issues. In addition to my experience in working with those with trauma, I have also worked with neurodivergent populations, those who experience anxiety and depression, and individuals navigating life changes. I value creating a space where you feel safe, at ease, and cared for. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where the best results happen when we work together to achieve your goals. It is hugely important to me to establish a trauma-informed space that is specific to your needs, so I always welcome and encourage your feedback! Outside of therapy, I enjoy running, being outside, cooking, and spending time with my friends and family.

FAQs

To me, breakthroughs are what some might consider the "little wins." Practicing self-care for the first time or setting a boundary in your life, for example, are huge breakthroughs because they show you are actively doing the work to improve! I will never hold back a smile or encouragement when I hear about a client working to accomplish their goals.

Each person has unique life experiences that bring them to therapy, so everyone's therapeutic journey will look somewhat different. I typically utilize motivational interviewing and a combination of ACT and somatic techniques, but it truly depends on the individual. Duration of therapy is also dependent on the individual, but the counseling process will always be collaborative where we can adjust as needed to best reflect your needs.

For the first session, we will spend time getting to know one another and set boundaries and expectations for the therapeutic process. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you want, establishing your comfort and safety is most important.

I am so lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job! I get the privilege of hearing from brave and inspiring people every day and enjoy getting to know you and building a meaningful relationship!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In my sessions, It is my goal for clients to feel safe talking about sensitive and personal topics. In order for this to happen, it is important that we build a strong therapeutic relationship. I utilize many different therapeutic approaches, but most of all you will hear me highlighting your strengths, and help you to recognize them as well. My sessions are judgment-free zones, where I encourage honest communication. I want to build your confidence, and will sometimes challenge you to do this! Additionally, you are the expert of your own life and your own experience, I am just here to help you achieve your goals! Lastly, while recognizing that therapy can and will be hard some days, I want you to take away that it can also be a fun, enjoyable process, where you can grow, laugh, and leave feeling confident.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including:Psychotherapy,Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy & Trauma-Focused Therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Client feedback I have received highlights my ability to make people feel at ease talking about traumatizing events. I also listen intently and ask introspective questions to encourage you to look at things from a different perspective. I will help you to recognize your strengths, and have you look forward to the next session. Clients have also communicated to me that they feel comfortable telling me when something needs to change, or they want to adjust their goals.
