Hello! My name is Casey Yenyo (she/her). I received my bachelor's in social work from Christopher Newport University and a Master's of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have two years of clinical experience in the behavioral and mental health field. My experience comes from community mental health where I worked with many amazing people, both children and adults. I have a passion for working with individuals who have experienced trauma, and admire their bravery to work through difficult and upsetting events. I earned a certificate in Gender Violence Intervention from Virginia Commonwealth University which has allowed me to work with a wide variety of individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual violence. I also have a background in working in women's health issues. In addition to my experience in working with those with trauma, I have also worked with neurodivergent populations, those who experience anxiety and depression, and individuals navigating life changes. I value creating a space where you feel safe, at ease, and cared for. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where the best results happen when we work together to achieve your goals. It is hugely important to me to establish a trauma-informed space that is specific to your needs, so I always welcome and encourage your feedback! Outside of therapy, I enjoy running, being outside, cooking, and spending time with my friends and family.
To me, breakthroughs are what some might consider the "little wins." Practicing self-care for the first time or setting a boundary in your life, for example, are huge breakthroughs because they show you are actively doing the work to improve! I will never hold back a smile or encouragement when I hear about a client working to accomplish their goals.
Each person has unique life experiences that bring them to therapy, so everyone's therapeutic journey will look somewhat different. I typically utilize motivational interviewing and a combination of ACT and somatic techniques, but it truly depends on the individual. Duration of therapy is also dependent on the individual, but the counseling process will always be collaborative where we can adjust as needed to best reflect your needs.
For the first session, we will spend time getting to know one another and set boundaries and expectations for the therapeutic process. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you want, establishing your comfort and safety is most important.
I am so lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job! I get the privilege of hearing from brave and inspiring people every day and enjoy getting to know you and building a meaningful relationship!
