Hello! Firstly, I’d like to commend you for showing up for yourself in a meaningful way by seeking the support you deserve. My name is Katie and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of New Jersey and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York. I received my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling at SUNY New Paltz and have been practicing in the field since May of 2017. I have provided support to individuals who have struggled with a variety of mental health and substance use disorders. Most of my experience has been gained working with adults in both individual and group therapy settings. I recognize how difficult it can be facing challenges related to depression, anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, relationships, self-esteem, life transitions, women’s issues, and LGBTQIA+ issues. Through evidence-based practices, I believe I can provide you with the space you need for self-empowerment and an overall improvement in the way you view yourself and the world around you. You took the first and most important step and I’m here to walk with you through the rest. Let’s team up to bring about positive change in your life!
I once supported a client who was working to overcome homelessness, as they struggled with the thought of being “stuck” there. Through our work together, this individual was able to recognize their strengths, believe in their abilities, and obtain independent housing in the community.
The goal is connection. Through evidence-based practices, primarily CBT, I’m focused on supporting you in recognizing your full potential. I try to cater my style to what best fits the client’s needs; however, I am human first, and here to talk, listen, and take concrete steps toward positive change.
My first session is one where I am focused on building rapport with you, while also gathering important information. I will ask a variety of different questions with the goal of learning about brief history, your struggles, and help us to identify goals for treatment.
Above all else, I believe in the art of conversation and feel as though listening and talking to one another can be a powerful experience that is sometimes lacking in our lives. I hope together to create a safe space where individuals can openly express themselves and feel heard, validated, and supported in return. I view being a therapist as a privilege, as I recognize the difficulty and importance that comes along with being vulnerable. I have a deep appreciation for lending a helping hand to those willing to go there with me.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I am very much “me” in and out of therapy. My main goal is to align myself with my clients to build a therapeutic relationship worth investing in. I understand that for some, therapy may be a bit scary at first, therefore, I try to remain humble, down to earth, and engaging in hopes that others will feel comfortable. I mostly utilize a cognitive behavioral therapy approach in order to encourage others to harness the power of their thoughts in a way that influences healthy and productive behaviors. Through use of person-centered techniques, I hope to create a space where others will feel empowered to want to set their own goals and allow me the opportunity to help maximize the chance of achieving them. I will do my very best to provide you with a strengths-based focus every step of the way. I want to support individuals to reach their full potential in all aspects of life. I very much believe you’re capable of that.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I primarily utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, encouraging the importance of bringing awareness to the connection and power that exists between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. As I carry out therapy, I utilize mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and person-centered techniques to allow you a safe space to explore difficulties in your life and recognize the power you have to manage them. At times, in addition to CBT, I will utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills to help you learn healthy ways of coping with your struggles. Through Solution-Focused Therapy, we will find the answers you’re looking for.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My focus population is working with adults in all stages of life. I’m well versed in providing support to those struggling with depression, anxiety, mood-disorders, trauma, substance use, self-destructive behaviors, interpersonal conflict, and life transitions.
