Welcome and congratulations on being brave enough to take this first step. If you’re here, then it’s because you’re in pain and tired of dealing with it. You’ve gotten good at looking like you’re okay but inside you know you’re struggling. It’s okay that you don’t know how things will get better. By reaching out for help, you have taken a huge step towards healing. Let’s get started on your journey together.
I remember a person I was helping who had a difficult time healing. We kept working at it together for almost a year but they felt stuck. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on them because the breakthrough came when I least expected it. One day, I shared something about a personal struggle and their eyes lit up. Suddenly it was like a wall came down. I learned that for them to drop their guard, they needed to see me as a human who also struggled in life.
Our first session together will be focused on your stories. Stories are great ways to find the origin of your pain. If certain stories are too difficult to share, that’s okay; we’ll move at your pace. I take the time to get to know and understand who you are inside and out.
As we move deeper into the counseling process, themes and patterns will start to emerge. Examples of these are people-pleasing, codependency, or toxic relationships. Together we’ll look at how these patterns are affecting you. Then we’ll use trial and error to experiment with some changes to see what kind of results they offer and make necessary and helpful adjustments. You’ll always be in the driver’s seat because it’s your life.
I am motivated by the belief that people can change their lives for the better. Things may feel dark right now, but healing is possible. That moment when someone I’m helping starts building momentum feels wonderful. When I meet the person, I start dreaming of what their life will be like when they’re ready to say goodbye to me. The door will always be open but I’m proud when they’re healthy and ready to move on.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I believe counseling should feel organic and natural. I like relational therapy that helps the person I serve to feel like they’re in a judgment-free place of safety and empower them to advocate for themselves. Let’s be curious together and discover the life you were meant to live.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
My treatment method is personalized to the needs of the person I’m helping. As you’ve done your research, I’m sure you’ve come across a lot of different abbreviations: CBT, DBT, EMDR, EFT, IFS and many others. Trying to make sense of all this can be overwhelming. The important thing to know is that I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method. You are unique and I find it best to learn about you before jumping to a conclusion on the best way to help. As things progress, I will share my plan for healing to get your feedback and answer any questions and address your concerns. I believe therapy works better if you’re informed and included in our path together.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My biggest super-power in therapy is my empathy. I believe the people who come to me deserve comfort and encouragement. I will lend them my hope while they rebuild their own. The best feeling in the world is watching the people I help start to notice positive changes in their life. I love seeing the excitement on their faces as we celebrate their bravery. I practice humility and am regularly learning from those I serve. I have no preference in who I work with because I enjoy working with all populations.
