About Me

Congratulations on taking such a significant and courageous step in your self-care. My name is Ebony Yelder (she/her/hers), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience providing counseling and psychiatric services. I have worked in a variety of settings to include, behavioral health hospitals, outpatient clinics, emergency rooms, in home counseling, as well as for the Department of Defense providing counseling services for our service members and their families. I am passionate about helping individuals cope with daily life challenges as well as more complex mental health concerns. My mission is to empower my clients through identifying and cultivating their strengths consequently building upon these qualities to achieve the vision that they have for themselves. I had a client come to me struggling with severe grief as well as debilitating anxiety due to the Covid pandemic. When she presented, she had been out of work for 3 months, lost 20lbs, unable to manage daily tasks and finding it difficult to feel motivated to get out of bed each day. Through our work together she was able to process through her grief, learn to work through what was driving her anxiety, regain her sense of purpose, and start living a life where she could once again feel grounded.

As we begin our work together the most important thing is to establish what my client’s needs and goals are. Sometimes clients come with specific goals in mind, but often times the therapeutic process needs to begin as a form of exploration to identify what is happening at the core. My clients can expect to experience an approach that is holistic and unique to their individual needs.

During our first session time is spent discussing why the client is presenting for therapy and obtaining idea of what they would like to achieve during our time together. In addition, we will discuss background information that is valuable in providing a foundation for their journey. This is also an opportunity for the client to ask any questions that they may have.

Life is full of challenges. I feel inspired when I can help others thrive and overcome any barriers or struggles, they may face or feel that holds them back from living the life that they envision for themselves. I love being a cheerleader for my clients.

    I believe that the single most important factor in being able to effectively support a client is by first establishing a quality rapport. I strive to provide a safe space for my clients to feel comfortable through acceptance and positive regard. I am dedicated to helping my clients get to the core of what is holding them back and address these issues so that they can move forward on their journey. Clients can expect that through our work together, they will have new insight and learn to tap into their strengths to address challenges.     What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

    While I primarily use Positive Psychology, Solution Focused Therapy as well incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic techniques. I also subscribe to the belief that the therapeutic process should be individualized and not a one size fits all treatment modality. Every person is unique which requires the therapeutic approach to be tailored to their individual journey. I believe in rather than primarily focusing of ones flaws, as people are not “broken,” instead to focus on ones strengths and lean into them. Together we can take this journey and collaborate on ways to help you achieve your goals and optimal emotional health!

    Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

    My experience in the field of mental health has afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals who are struggling with challenges ranging from daily struggles to severe mental illness. Consequently, I am skilled at being able to partner with my clients to adequately assess their needs and where they may be on their journey. I understand the importance of acknowledging diversity and incorporating that into the therapeutic process. I work from a strengths-based approach believing that we all already have everything we need to achieve whatever it is we want for ourselves. It is my job to help my clients get to that core, bring these strengths to the surfaces, built upon them.
