About Me

Hi there, I’m Esther Mills. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over twenty years of experience working in clinical settings, ranging from in-home therapy and consulting to outpatient counseling settings. I help people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma, and relationship difficulties to manage and gain control of their emotions, understand their patterns of coping, and actively problem-solve. I also worked eleven years as a Behavior Consultant and work with parents who are feeling overwhelmed on strategies to manage their children’s behaviors. I worked with a parent who stated that she was surprised at how quickly she was able to get her child’s behavior under control.

Though every person’s situation is unique, I generally approach the counseling process from a problem-solving framework and provide tools to help clients manage their emotions and develop healthy coping strategies to deal with life’s stressors.

My first session includes gathering information to complete an intake as well as collaborating on a treatment plan to support my client’s specific needs.

As a teenager I was always picking up self-help books to read. Thinking therapeutically has always come naturally to me.

My approach combines client-centered, humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral counseling. I am focused on the here and now and I want to know what is important to you and how we can move you towards your mental wellness goals.     What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

    I utilize evidence-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy. Your treatment plan will be individualized and tailored to fit your specific needs.

    I have worked with adults of all ages and have done individual, family and marital counseling. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use, addiction, trauma, mood disorders, and psychosis.
