About Me

Hi there, My name is Lila Heymann. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 23 years of experience working in lots of different settings, ranging from an inpatient psychiatric hospital to an outpatient day treatment program to a drop in shelter for unhoused individuals. I am an experienced therapist having worked with adults, families and groups. I help people who are easily overwhelmed to learn distress tolerance techniques and stress management skills. Together, we can strategize about what to do to help you to manage your emotions. We'll use a whole self approach, addressing the needs of your mind, body and spirit. I also integrate mindfulness to help you develop a stronger relationship with yourself. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming relationship issues or cycles of anxiety and depression, I'm here to help. Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so you can overcome the hang-ups and habits holding you back. Let's work together!

FAQs

I recently worked with a client who struggled enormously with social anxiety. She had until recently been isolated and alienated. Through our work together, she was able to face her fears and now volunteers several times a week at the SPCA and at her church. Additionally she has joined a coffee meet up group.

Though every person’s situation is unique, I generally approach the counseling process from a Psychodynamic framework to help my clients understand their underlying, subconscious motivations for their actions, both positive and negative. Together we employ modalities which are designed to assist the client with their specific challenges.

My first session is not only a time for demographic gathering. It’s important that my clients understand that counseling is a process that though facilitated by a practitioner, is client focused. I will meet the client where they are in the moment and discuss what they wish to discuss as a means of orientation for our work together.

I believe in the growth process which is available through therapy. I believe in the self determination of each person and their right to the type of assistance and resources for growth which therapy provides.
